ARTICLE SUMMARY
This article explains the steps on how to install the new Dynamics 365 app for Outlook.
The D365 COM Add-in for Outlook (aka Dynamics Client for Outlook) has been deprecated.
The new D365 Add-in (aka Dynamics App for Outlook) connects through the server-side, therefore doesn't need to be installed on the client computes, but only deployed using the Dynamics CRM.
Prerequisites
Client-Side:
- Outlook 2019 (preferably), or
- Outlook 2016 up-to-date (we've faced some problems already with full-compatibility)
Pre-check
- Remove the old Dynamics Client from the users' system:
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Microsoft Office Outlook
Instructions
1. Verify if the user has the Dynamics 365 App for Outlook User security role.
From the main menu hit the engine icon > Advanced Settings
Go to Settings > Security > Users
Select the user from the list and open their profile, then hit Manage Roles from the top menu.
Confirm if the security role is checked. If not, check it and hit OK:
2. Configure the user's mailbox.
Go to Settings > Email Configuration > Mailboxes
Search for the user and check the 4th, 5th and 6th columns.
If any of them has the value Not Run, select the user and hit Apply Default Email Settings and OK in the windows that will open. This will make sure everything is will run from the server-side, and run a test.
You can check the test progress hitting the refresh button on the right of the grid:
After a couple of seconds, the three columns must have Sucess as value:
3. Deploy the Dynamics App.
The system is set to auto-deploy the app for all eligible user and send an email when is ready to be used.
To check the progress - or force it - go to the Dynamics App for Outlook.
Go back to the main UI page > UCC > Dynamics App for Outlook
Search for the user and check their Status.
If the value is Added to Outlook, the user is good to go.
The users receive an automatic email when the app is deployied
To re-deploy the app, just select their name and hit Add App to Outlook.
After a minute or so, the app will be re-deployed.
